Jesus Is Tempted In the Wilderness

Just before He began His public ministry, Jesus had a showdown with the devil in the wilderness. The devil came to tempt Jesus — the devil tempted Jesus to compromise the integrity of His mission. But how did the devil come to Jesus? Did he come wearing a red suit, sporting horns and a forked tail, and carrying a pitchfork? Did he say, “Hi, I’m the devil. I’m here to tempt you. Shall we begin?” Of course not. The devil came to Jesus the same way the devil comes to us — disguised as our own thoughts. And how did Jesus prevail over the devil’s temptations? By having His mind so saturated in the word of God that He could see through the pernicious lies of the devil. During this season of Lent, let’s imitate Jesus and saturate our minds in the word of God.
