Jesus Heals Bartimaeus

Mark tells us that Jesus came to Jericho and then Jesus was leaving Jericho. Jesus was about to come and go with nothing happening in Jericho. But Bartimaeus wasn’t about to let that happen! The moment this blind beggar heard that it was Jesus, the miracle- worker from Galilee, who was passing by, Bartimaeus knew this was his chance, and he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” The religious elite thought that Bartimaeus was ruining the solemnity of the moment so they told him to knock it off, but Bartimaeus would not be deterred…and Bartimaeus received his sight. Let’s be like Bartimaeus today and keep the Jesus Prayer in our heart and on our lips: Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me. Amen.
