Unvarnished Jesus: A Lenten JourneyMuestra

Matthew 26:57–68
3rd Station of the Cross: Jesus Before the Sanhedrin
In his trial before the Sanhedrin, Jesus makes one of His most significant confessions when He identifies himself as the Son of Man who ascends to the throne of God. Jesus is referring to Daniel 7 where the prophet sees a vision of a parade of beasts representing pagan empires that leave a trail of suffering in their wake. But at last there appears a human being called the Son of Man who is given all authority over the nations. No longer is the world to be ruled in a beastly manner, but in a humane manner. Jesus claims to be that Son of Man and tells Caiaphas that from now on, you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of the Power. In other words, the endless age of the reign of Christ began two thousand years ago! Amen.
