Better Together: Connecting With God And Each Other

DAY 4 OF 15

## Pressing On To Dependency “Time is a monster that cannot be reasoned with. It responds like a snail to our impatience, then it races like a gazelle when you can't catch a breath.” - From the movie Simon Birch Time rules our days. Fitting in our lists of to-do’s, spending time with people, completing our jobs, housework, parenting, enjoying our hobbies, church, eating meals, volunteering, sleep, studying, exercising, being entertained - it all cuts into the 24 hours we are given each day. Time is a more valued commodity than money in our culture. When our days get too full, we tend to cut out what seems less important to take on the urgent. Sleep, family time, and exercising are a few of the most common to cut out. Even more likely to make the "cut list" is our time with Jesus. It’s ironic actually; we often cut out time with the one who created time so that we have more time. Deep dependence on the Father will require intentional time with him where we learn to trust, listen, prioritize, and rest. We all have responsibilities that require time but what does your schedule say about the priorities in your life? Does God get the first fruits of your time? Or only what is left over after you have taken care of everything and everyone else? 1440 minutes in a day, 7 days in a week, 52 weeks in a year. Time is a level playing field; you cannot buy or barter for more. The choices you make each day with your time can draw you closer to true dependency on God or toward true dependency on yourself. Are you using your time to press on toward intimacy with your Heavenly Father or toward some other goal? ### Reflections: * Take a look at your schedule for the past month. Does it reflect a deep dependency on Jesus or just a really busy life? * Write down three priorities in your life that you must make time for. Where are the places in your life that need some reorganizing to make more time for the three priorities?
