Sunday 10:15 AM

Going Deeper is designed for use with your small group, a friend or on you own. Its aim is to create time for you to spend with God and his word. Do as much or as little as you like. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact one of our pastoral staff.
1. Pray for the needs of your Life Group, for our church and our leaders, for personal and corporate renewal, and to allow God’s word to transform us. Share a recent entry from your Life Journal with the group.
2. This Sunday, the message in the Clear Thinking series focused on Spiritual Growth. What thoughts or questions did the message raise for you? Which thoughts or points encouraged you orposed a challenge to you?
3. Read Gal. 4:19; 2 Cor. 5:17; Rom. 8:28-31; and Eph. 4:1-16. When Paul writes “Christ formed in you,” what does he mean? What does it look like? Reflect on, and share with others (if you are comfortable doing so) facets of your natural human character that have been re-shaped by Christ. Consider and pray about facets of your life that require more Christ-work.

Galatians 4:19

2 Corinthians 5:17

Romans 8:28-31

Ephesians 4:1-16

4. If I am saved and going to Heaven, why is my continued spiritual growth such a big deal? How does it bring glory to God? Why is my spiritual growth important for others? What effect does spiritual growth have on my happiness? How can it be the ultimate purpose of my life? Gen. 1:26?

Genesis 1:26

5. O.K., it’s a big deal. I do need to put off attitudes and behaviours of the flesh and put on those of the Spirit (Eph. 4:17-32), and I am told to walk in the Spirit and not in the flesh (Gal. 5:13-17). But to do this, how is surrendering to scripture, rather than conquering scripture, helpful?

Ephesians 4:17-32

Galatians 5:13-17

6. What role do community relationships and meeting in Life groups play Finally, what role does waiting on God play in my spiritual growth? How is it a more effective strategy than striving to bring about the changes in my life?
7. How is God speaking to you? Do you sense an invitation to something new? What concrete steps of response do you want to take? How can your group support you in these steps?
