Going Deeper is designed for use with your small group, a friend or on you own. Its aim is to create time for you to spend with God and his word. Do as much or as little as you like. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact one of our pastoral staff.
1. Pray for the needs of your Life Group, for our church and our leaders, for personal and corporate renewal, and to allow God’s word to transform us.
2. Share a recent entry from your Life Journal with the group.
3. This Sunday, the message in the Clear Thinking series focused on Relationships. What thoughts or questions did the message raise for you? Which thoughts or points encouraged you orposed a challenge to you?
4. Read 1 Corinthians 13:1-8, 13 out loud, making a list of the ways Paul describes love.Discuss the qualities, note which is a descriptive and which is an action, giving concrete examples of how that quality and its opposite would be observable. E.g. What does kindness or unkindness look like when I accidentally spill the milk? What problem or danger do you see in loving like this?
5. What prevents you from loving fully to the 1 Cor 13 description? How could you overcome your barriers and keep moving toward perfect love?
6. Discuss the following claim: Love is a key attribute of God’s character; it is a key motivating factor for God’s actions; love is the ultimate expression of Christ-likeness in the redeemed humanity, therefore it is a key indicator and a worthy goal of our transformation.
7. Read Eph 4:32 out loud. What is the connection between growing in love and the commands in this verse? Describe how Christ forgave you. Have you been discipled to know how to accomplish this kind of forgiveness?
8. Take a moment of silence as you consider how God is speaking to you. Do you sense an invitation to something new? What concrete steps of response do you want to take? How can your group support you in these steps?
