Going Deeper is designed for use with your small group, a friend or on you own. Its aim is to create time for you to spend with God and his word. Do as much or as little as you like. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact one of our pastoral staff.
1. Pray for the needs of your Life Group, for our church and our leaders, for personal and corporate renewal, and to allow God’s word to transform us.
2. This Sunday, the message in the Embracing God’s Grace series focused on Growing in Grace. What thoughts or questions did the service raise for you? Which thoughts or points encouraged you or posed a challenge to you?
3.Share from your personal experience and practice how you intentionally grow in grace. Do you feel well equipped to grow in grace or could you use some help in this area?
4. Read 2 Peter 3 out loud. The command to grow in grace & knowledge of the Lord comes in light of what realities described in that chapter?
5. Read 1 Pet 2:2, Col 1:9-10 out loud. What do you see about growth in these verses? Do you see clues as to how to grow, and the outcome of growth?
6. Read 1 Tim 1:7 and Heb 5:12 out loud.What do these verses say about maturity? What is the danger of teaching about spiritual things that we have ourselves understood? Where would you place yourself on the milk-to-meat continuum of spiritual diet? Are you satisfied with how you are being fed? Do you need more solid food (and what would that look like) or is it hard to digest some of what you hear?
7. Dallas Willard said “We, in the Western Church, are educated beyond our ability to obey.” Share your thoughts on this statement. How well do you live out what you already know. For example, how readily do you love your enemies, pray for those who persecute you, forgive from the heart, prefer others etc.
8. Take a moment of silence as you consider how God is speaking to you. Do you sense an invitation to something new? What concrete steps of response do you want to take? How can your group support you in these steps?
