Going Deeper is designed for use with your small group, a friend or on you own. Its aim is to create time for you to spend with God and his word. Do as much or as little as you like. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact one of our pastoral staff.
1. Pray for the needs of your Life Group, for our church and our leaders, for personal and corporate renewal, and to allow God’s word to transform us. Share a recent entry from your Life Journal with the group. Review any commitments made during your previous meeting.
2. Hollywood and sports teams give us plenty of people to idolize. Social media shows us how to make ourselves appear greater than we are. But God tells us he is to have first place in our lives. When confronted with social pressure to conform to the world’s standards, God is there to defend us when we believe in him and declare our allegiance to him. What thoughts or questions did the sermon message raise for you as we studied Daniel 3?
3. Read Isa 48:10. Since God is more concerned about our character than our comfort, we sometimes find ourselves in the furnace of suffering. Share a time when your character was tested by suffering. What has you tied up in the furnace? What part of your character could God be building through this?
4. Read Dan 3:28. Who or what would you be willing to die for? If you were asked to choose between your life and the approval of others, which would you choose and why? When have you been forced to make the unpleasant choice of doing what is right before God or conforming to social pressure? How do you feel now about your choice?
5. Read 1 Cor 3:10-15. What steps are you taking to build a life on a foundation that can be tested by fire? What direction should you take now to make sure you will collect your rewards in heaven?
6. Read Dan 3:17. Reflect on a time of trouble, difficulty or oppression in your life. How did God empower you to bear up under it or rescue you from it? Who have you told about what God did in your life?
7. Read Daniel 3:17-19. The king’s face was distorted with his anger. How does your character compare to these three men when confronted with an angry attack? How can you strengthen your character for the next time?
8. Take a moment of silence to consider how God is speaking to you. Is He asking you to make changes or to do something new? What concrete steps of response do you want to take? How can your group support you in these steps?
