Going Deeper is designed for use with your small group, a friend or on you own. Its aim is to create time for you to spend with God and his word. Do as much or as little as you like. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact one of our pastoral staff.

1.Pray for the needs of your Life Group, for our church and our leaders, for personal and corporate renewal, and to allow God’s word to transform us.

2. The sermon was based on God’s Saving Grace and that it is only through faith in Christ that we can be in relationship with God. There is nothing we can do to earn it. What thoughts or questions did the message raise for you? Which thoughts or points encouraged you or posed a challenge to you?

3. Can you recall receiving a generous gift that you didn’t feel that you deserved? What relationship did you have with the giver? Was it hard or easy to receive the gift? What was your response?

4. Read John 8:1-11. How do you suppose the Pharisees “caught this woman in the act of adultery”? What are some of the attitudes they might have? How did Jesus turn this situation around? Why didn’t Jesus condemn the sinful woman? What kind of response do you think the woman might have had when Jesus extended grace, but also told her to “go and sin no more”?

5. Think about a moment you felt condemnation from others for something you did (share the context without details with your group if appropriate). Now imagine God’s response to that same action – what would he say to you? Why?

6. Take turns slowly reading through the following verses (consider using 2 or 3 translations): John 1:16; Acts 15:11; Rom 3:24: Titus 2:11; Eph 1:6; Eph 2:8-9; Isa 30:18. What sticks out for you as you read those verses? Is anything there that is difficult for you to believe? In what ways might you have tried to earn God’s grace? Have you received God’s saving grace?

7. Take a moment of silence as you consider how God is speaking to you. Do you sense an invitation to something new? What concrete steps of response do you want to take? How can your group support you in these steps?
