Eoin 1
1
An Brollach
1Bhí an Briathar ann i dtús báire
agus bhí an Briathar in éineacht le Dia,
agus ba Dhia an Briathar.
2Bhí sé ann i dtús baire in éineacht le Dia.
3Rinneadh an uile ní tríd
agus gan é ní dhearnadh aon ní dá ndearnadh.
4Is ann a bhí an bheatha
agus ba é solas na ndaoine an bheatha.
5Agus tá an solas ag taitneamh sa dorchadas,
ach níor ghabh an dorchadas é.
6Bhí fear a tháinig ina theachtaire ó Dhia,
agus Eoin a ba ainm dó.
7Tháinig sé ag déanamh fianaise
chun fianaise a thabhairt i dtaobh an tsolais
chun go gcreidfeadh cách tríd.
8Níorbh é féin an solas
ach tháinig ag tabhairt fianaise i dtaobh an tsolais.
9An solas fírinneach
a shoilsíonn gach aon duine,
bhí sé ag teacht ar an saol.
10Bhí sé ar an saol
agus is tríd a rinneadh an saol,
agus níor aithin an saol é.
11Chun a chuid féin a tháinig
agus níor ghlac a mhuintir é.
12Ach an uile dhuine a ghlac é,
thug sé de cheart dóibh
go ndéanfaí clann Dé díobh,
dóibh seo a chreideann ina ainm,
13an mhuintir nach as folanna a rugadh iad
ná as toil feola,
ná as toil fir ach ó Dhia.
14Agus rinneadh feoil den Bhriathar
agus chónaigh sé inár measc,
agus chonacamar-na a ghlóir,
a ghlóir mar Aonghin ón Athair,
lán de ghrásta agus d'fhírinne.
15Tagann Eoin ag tabhairt fianaise ina thaobh
agus glaonn in ard a ghutha:
“É seo an té a ndúirt mé faoi:
‘An té atá ag teacht í mo dhiaidh,
tá an tosach aige orm mar bhí sé ann romham.’ ”
16Óir ghlacamar uile as a lánmhaireacht,
sea, grásta ar ghrásta.
17Tugadh an dlí go deimhin trí Mhaois,
ach tháinig an grásta agus an fhírinne trí Íosa Críost.
18Ní fhaca aon duine riamh Dia.
An tAonghin atá i gcochall chroí Dé,
eisean a d'aithris.
Fianaise Eoin
19Is í seo an fhianaise a thug Eoin nuair a chuir na Giúdaigh sagairt agus Léivítigh ó Iarúsailéim chuige á fhiafraí de: 20“Cé hé thusa?” D'admhaigh sé agus níor shéan agus d'admhaigh sé: “Ní hé an Críost mé.” 21D'fhiafraigh siad de: “Cad eile, más ea? An tú Éilias?” “Ní mé,” ar seisean. “An tú an fáidh?” Agus d'fhreagair: “Ní mé.” 22Dúirt siad leis mar sin: “Cé hé thú? - chun go mbeadh freagra againn dóibh seo a chuir chugat sinn. Cad tá le rá agat mar gheall ort féin?” 23Dúirt sé: “Is glór duine mé ag éamh san fhásach: ‘Déanaigí díreach bóthar an Tiarna,’ mar a dúirt Íseáia fáidh.” 24Ó na Fairisínigh a ba ea na teachtairí, 25agus chuir siad ceist air: “Cén fáth a mbíonn tú ag baisteadh más ea,” ar siad, “mura thú an Críost, nó Éilias, nó an fáidh?” 26Thug Eoin freagra orthu: “Déanaim féin baisteadh le huisce,” ar seisean, “ach tá duine in bhur measc nach aithnid daoibh, 27an té atá ag teacht i mo dhiaidh, nach fiú mé iall a chuarán a scaoileadh.” 28I mBeatáine, taobh thall den Iordáin, a tharla an méid sin mar a raibh Eoin ag déanamh baiste. 29Lá arna mhárach chonaic Eoin Íosa ag teacht chuige agus dúirt sé: “Seo é Uan Dé a thógann peaca an domhain. 30Eisean an té a ndúirt mé faoi: ‘Tá duine ag teacht i mo dhiaidh a bhfuil tosach aige orm, mar bhí sé ann romham.’ 31Níorbh aithnid dom féin é, ach is chun go nochtfaí d'Iosrael é a tháinig mé ag baisteadh le huisce.” 32Agus thug Eoin fianaise: “Chonaic mé,” ar sé, “an Spiorad, mar cholm, ag tuirlingt air ó na flaithis agus ag fanacht air. 33Níorbh aithnid dom féin é, ach an té a sheol mé ag baisteadh le huisce, dúirt seisean liom: ‘An té ar a bhfeicfidh tú an Spiorad ag tuirlingt agus ag fanacht air, eisean an té a bhaisteann leis an Spiorad Naomh.’ 34Chonaic mé agus is finné mé gurb é seo Mac Dé.”
Deisceabail á nGlaoch
35Lá arna mhárach arís bhí Eoin ina sheasamh ansiúd agus beirt dá dheisceabail. 36Agus ag stánadh dó ar Íosa ag gabháil thart dúirt sé: “Seo é Uan Dé.” 37Chuala an bheirt deisceabal é ag rá na cainte agus lean siad Íosa. 38D'iompaigh Íosa, chonaic iad á leanúint agus dúirt sé leo: “Cad tá uaibh?” D'fhreagair siad é: “A raibí” - is é sin le rá “a mháistir” - “Cá bhfuil cónaí ort?” 39“Tagaigí agus feicigí,” ar sé leo. Tháinig siad dá bhrí sin agus chonaic siad cá raibh cónaí air, agus d'fhan siad fairis an lá sin. Bhí sé timpeall an deichiú huair.
40Duine den bheirt a chuala Eoin agus a lean Íosa a ba ea Aindrias, deartháir Shíomóin Peadar. 41Fuair seisean ar dtús a dheartháir féin Síomón agus dúirt sé leis: “Fuaireamar an Meisias” - is é sín le rá an tUngthach. 42Thug sé leis é chun Íosa. D'fhéach Íosa go grinn air agus dúirt: “Is tú Síomón mac Eoin. Tabharfar ort Céafas” - focal a chiallaíonn Carraig. 43Lá arna mhárach bheartaigh sé dul don Ghailíl agus fuair sé Pilib. Dúirt Íosa leis: “Lean mise.” 44Ó Bhéatsáide, ó chathair Aindriais agus Pheadair, a ba ea Pilib. 45Fuair Pilib Natanael agus dúirt sé leis: “An té úd ar ar scríobh Maois sa dlí agus ar ar scríobh na fáithe, fuaireamar é, Íosa mac Iósaef ó Nazarat.” 46Dúirt Natanael: “As Nazarat? An féidir aon ní fónta a theacht as sin?” “Tar agus feic,” a dúirt Pilib leis. 47Chonaic Íosa Natanael ag teacht chuige agus dúirt ina thaobh: “Sin Iosraelach dáiríre nach bhfuil aon fheall ann.” 48“Cén chaoi a n‑aithníonn tú mé?” arsa Natanael leis. D'fhreagair Íosa: “Sular ghlaoigh Pilib ort,” ar sé leis, “agus tú faoin gcrann fígí, chonaic mé thú.” 49D'fhreagair Natanael é: “A raibí, is tú mac Dé, is tú rí Iosrael.” 50D'fhreagair Íosa: “De bhrí go ndúirt mé leat,” ar sé leis, “go bhfaca mé thú faoin gcrann fígí creideann tú. Feicfidh tú nithe is mó ná iad seo. 51Go deimhin féin, a deirim libh,” ar sé leis, “go bhfeicfidh sibh na flaithis ar oscailt agus aingil Dé ag dul suas agus ag teacht anuas ar Mhac an Duine.”

John 1
1
1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2The same was in the beginning with God. 3All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
6There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. 8He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. 9That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. 10He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. 11He came unto his own, and his own received him not. 12But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. 14And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
John the Baptist's Testimony
15John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me. 16And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace. 17For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. 18No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.
19And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou? 20And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ. 21And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No. 22Then said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself? 23He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias.
24And they which were sent were of the Pharisees. 25And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Elias, neither that prophet? 26John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not; 27he it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe's latchet I am not worthy to unloose. 28These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing.
Behold the Lamb of God
29The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. 30This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me. 31And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water. 32And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him. 33And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost. 34And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.
His First Disciples
35Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples; 36and looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God! 37And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. 38Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou? 39He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour. 40One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. 41He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ. 42And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.
43The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me. 44Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.
45Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph. 46And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see. 47Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile! 48Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee. 49Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.
50Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these. 51And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.
