What to Do if You Are Disappointed with God?Uddrag
Losing Sight of Jesus
“While they were talking and discussing together, Jesus himself drew near and went with them. But their eyes were kept from recognizing Him.” (Luke 24:15-16)
Today’s verses are very sad. The disciples walking on the road to Emmaus were so full of disappointment and grief about the death of their Lord, that they didn’t even recognize Him when He was walking along with them. Their eyes were blinded.
That’s exactly what disappointment can do to us. It prevents us from seeing God’s guidance in our lives. It prevents us from hearing God’s voice in His Word, the Bible. It prevents us from considering other viewpoints. It makes us blind to the truth.
In a way, we humans are all naturally blind to Jesus as He really is. The apostle Paul says that people’s minds have been blinded from seeing the light of the Gospel (2 Corinthians 4:4). Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And yet, many consider Him just a prophet or a wise teacher. They don’t really see Him with eyes of faith.
Paul was commissioned by Jesus to preach the Gospel everywhere, “to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God” (Acts 26:18).
Even when we have received “eyes of faith”, our vision can be temporarily blurred by sorrow, unbelief or disappointment. Ask Jesus to lift up the veil and open your eyes anew!
