What about while you are feeling the weight of your grief? Friend, I have Good News for you. Jesus is there, right in the midst of it with you. He has told you that He'd never leave, nor forsake you. There are actually many verses to stand on this promise of God! (Deut. 31:6, Heb 13:5)
I learned that when you are slammed sideways with an unexpected trial, tribulation, death, divorce, separation, bad news, etc., it can feel like God is silent. I've been there and felt that for sure. It's normal when your whole world seems to turn upside down to feel this way. In the current upset, however, it is more crucial than ever to stand on the Promises of God that you know to be faithful. If you have hidden God's Word in your heart as we are instructed to do, somehow, those verses will just pop into your head just when you need them the most. Where do you think that comes from? It's not just that you memorized any old phrase/verses/book, but that you memorized something LIVING and SUPERNATURAL that has the power to take precedence to assist you in your journey to healing from your hurts. Scripture is your power outlet! You cannot glean from It's Light, without first making sure you're PLUGGED IN! It is balm for the weary soul, like nothing else has the ability to do.
Even when I did not feel like it, I still opened my Bible and asked God to speak to me and show me what He wanted me to know.
You could say I am a bit stubborn. I rebelled against my feelings of apathy in my pain, and forced myself to do what I KNEW would work. He's never failed to disappoint me in that obedience. He's actually incapable of failing! His compassions never fail! (Lam 3:22, Luke 1:37)
Did you know that King David, "encouraged himself" in the Lord? (1 Sam 30:6) Because he did, God used it to lift him up. David shared this so that others who read it after him would realize the gift of leaning on God, no matter what. Feelings wax and wane and cannot be trusted. The enemy gets involved in how we feel and manipulates our minds while we are at our weakest, because he knows how easy it is for humans to cave to discouragement. That's why we must take captive every thought to the obedience of Christ. (2 Cor. 10:5)
What small step can you take today to help you keep putting one foot in front of the other as you navigate your painful journey?
