GO ANOTHER WAY
There’s one word that most of us dread seeing when we’re in a hurry: detour. You’re on your way to work, to meet a friend, or to grab your favorite latte, following a route you’ve driven dozens of times. Then suddenly, there it is: a bright orange sign blocking your way. You sigh, grip the steering wheel a little tighter, and follow a new route you didn’t plan to take.
This is exactly what happened in our passage today. Both the Magi and Joseph were told by God to take a different route—a divine detour. The Magi were warned not to return to Herod, and Joseph was instructed to take his family to Egypt. Neither change of direction was expected, but both were necessary for their protection.
Sometimes, God redirects us the same way. You thought life would look one way, but suddenly the path changes. The relationship ends. The job closes. The opportunity falls through. It feels like a detour, but often, it’s divine. God sees what we can’t, and His redirection is rarely punishment—it’s protection.
Has God ever led you down a road you didn’t expect? Maybe you’re in one of those seasons right now. When He changes your direction, don’t resist it—trust it. God’s detours are never wasted. In His wisdom, He knows how to guide, grow, and guard your life. You have nothing to fear when He’s the one leading the way.
