True justice walked among us

We can’t help but look for justice in an unjust world. The stories of someone standing up to corruption or exposing the truth against all odds, are littered across our streaming platforms. When the weak are trampled, the sick abandoned, the poor go hungry, and the lonely have no one, we know there’s something terribly wrong with the world – it’s not as it should be. Some of us are stirred to help, while others feel overwhelmed, convinced the world is beyond fixing.

Jesus walked into THIS world. Throughout the Old Testament, God’s heart is grieved when people oppress one another. In books like Amos and Zephaniah, judgement is pronounced on those who crush the vulnerable. In Micah, God confronts those who exploit widows and the poor. Social justice is not a modern concept – it’s rooted in the very character of God. And yet scripture reminds us, 'None is righteous, no, not one’ (Romans 3:10 NIV). In Isaiah 42:1–9, the servant of the Lord is foretold to bring justice to Israel and to the nations.

Matthew 12:18 reveals that this servant is Jesus who came to establish the kingdom of God. In Him, every wrong will be made right. The blind will see. Prisoners will be set free. The oppressed will be lifted up. Social justice comes with Jesus – not as an agenda, but as the outworking of who He is and what He has done. In this world injustice still lingers, but it will not last. A day is coming when Christ will set all things right. And until then, we walk in His footsteps, practicing and witnessing the justice He brings and establishes forever.

Advent

“This Christmas season let’s remember that God’s promises are not like ours – fragile and sometimes forgotten – but are firm, fulfilled and forever. In every wrapped gift, flickering Christmas tree light and sung carol, may we see a reflection of the ultimate gift: Jesus, the righteous branch – our everlasting hope.” (The Promise of a Righteous Branch – Robbie Parkin)
