13. The Knowledge of his will
How: God’s plans are reached through prayer
Lectio. “For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives.” (Colossians 1:9, NIV – read Col. 1:9–14).
Meditatio. After giving thanks for the faith, hope, and love of the Colossians—fruits of the Word—Paul prayed that they would be filled with wisdom, knowledge, and understanding of God’s will.
Oratio. Pray with Paul that you may share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light: living a worthy life, pleasing the Lord, bearing fruit in your conduct, growing in knowledge, being strengthened, persevering, and giving thanks.
Contemplatio. Picture someone living under the influence of darkness, dominated by ignorance. Now see God changing that person’s place, putting them under the rule of His beloved Son. Contemplate yourself in that scene.
Confessio. Over the years, I have developed a holy fear of asking for something God does not want to give me. That is why, when facing the unknown, I have learned to pray, always asking to fully know God’s will.
