Abba, Father

Every time Jesus prayed or referred to God, he called him “Father.” The only time he didn’t was while he was on the cross. As the Lord sensed the awfulness of separation from his Father, he cried out, “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?” (Mark 15:34, ESV). And because of what he experienced on the cross, he opened the door for you and me to have God as our Father.

When we honor the Father by trusting Jesus for eternal life, God becomes our Father in a very intimate way (Romans 8:14-16, Galatians 4:4-7). When Jesus spoke to Mary Magdalene, the first person to see him after his resurrection, he said to her, “I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God” (John 20:17, ESV, emphasis mine). Thus, by honoring Jesus, we not only honor the Father, but God becomes our Father.

For two thousand years, people across the world have been honoring the Son by trusting him for salvation. As you read this, numerous people around the world will be honoring the Lord for the first time. By faith, many will invite Jesus to come into their lives to forgive them, give them eternal life, and give them a new life centered on him.

Everyone who calls on the name to be saved (Romans 10:13) becomes part of the “Jesus family.” So many already have, and so many will in the future as these “greater works” continue until the Lord returns. “See what great love the Father has given us (and will continue giving us), that we (and many more) should be called children of God--and we are (1 John 3:1 CSB, emphasis mine)!

Prayer: Pray for two or three people you know to trust in Christ and become a child of God.

In John 5, after Jesus heals a man at the pool of Bethesda, he then declared that greater works would occur, causing people to be amazed. Over the next thirty days, this plan by Dr. P. J. Meduri from Taking the Field Ministries will explore the claims of Christ regarding these greater works. Works he continues today through his followers.
