Day 26: The Great Commission
Before ascending into heaven, Jesus gave His disciples one final command: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations’” (Matthew 28:19). This was not a suggestion for the especially bold or outgoing. It was the mission He entrusted to every believer. Sharing our faith is not optional; it is at the very heart of what it means to be a disciple of Christ.
Too often, Catholics see evangelization as something “other people” do - missionaries in faraway countries, or priests and religious leaders. But Jesus’ command was meant for everyone. The truth is, you don’t have to go overseas to share your faith. Your mission field is much closer: your family, workplace, neighborhood, and parish.
When we embrace the Great Commission, we recognize that evangelization is not about having all the answers or winning arguments. It is about giving witness to the hope we have in Christ. Our words and our lives together can become a light that draws others to Him.
Questions
- How do you view Jesus’ Great Commission - as a suggestion, or as a command for you personally?
- Who in your everyday life might God be calling you to share faith with?
