Rooted: 30 Days to Strengthen Your Faith Through Struggleنموونە

WEEK 3: Nourishing the Roots
Focus: Developing spiritual practices and a renewed mind to strengthen your identity in Christ.
Day 16: When You Don’t Know How To Pray
"In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans." Romans 8:26
Some days, the words won’t come.
You’re overwhelmed. Numb. Tired. Or maybe just unsure of how to begin.
I know for me, I've walked through periods of pain and discouragement that seemed to rob me of all words. And when I have tried to pray in those moments, I felt like I was fumbling through tears.
Prayer can feel like a mountain you don’t have the strength to climb. And if you’ve been taught that prayer is about “getting it right,” those silent moments can feel like failure.
But God doesn’t need fancy words. He doesn’t need performance. He just wants presence.
Romans 8 tells us something beautiful: even when you don’t know what to say, the Spirit speaks for you.
You are never praying alone. You are never too broken to bring your heart before God.
Even your sighs, your tears, your groans - the Holy Spirit translates them into holy intercession.
That means your silence isn’t empty. Your tears have meaning to God. He sees and hears our hearts, even when words seem lost.
So today, if prayer feels hard, you don’t have to push through in your own strength. Sit with God. Be still. Let your heart open. Let the Spirit carry what you can’t articulate.
You don’t have to have the right words. You just have to show up.
Reflection Questions:
- Have you felt too numb or weary to pray?
- What does it mean to let the Spirit intercede for you?
- How can you make space for silent, honest prayer this week?

We often view struggle as a bad thing to be avoided. Who wants pain, right? But what if it's in the struggle that God does some of his best refining work? What if it's in the struggle we are strengthened for the journey ahead? Jesus told us we would have trials - but we can take heart because we never walk the valley's alone. Join me for 30 days as we travel through scripture and strengthen our faith together in the face of struggle.
