It Starts with One

The Bible is full of stories about God using ordinary, flawed, and imperfect people to fulfill His purposes.

For example, the story of God’s people being rescued from slavery didn’t start with an army or huge revolt—it started with one.

One bush. One man in the wilderness. One call from God.

Even when God called him from the burning bush, Moses’ first response was doubt. He had a past he was running from, a speaking problem that he believed disqualified him, and a fear that no one would listen to him.

But God chose him.

God didn’t choose Moses because he was strong, confident, and perfect. He chose him because God often uses ordinary people to do extraordinary things.

When God called Moses, he asked, “Who am I to do this?” God's response was simple yet powerful: “I will be with you.”

Those five words change everything. It’s not about who you are—it’s about who is with you. Moses was never meant to free God’s people alone. God had been equipping him for this moment and would always be with him.

Even as Moses ran from his past, God was using his time in the desert to prepare him to shepherd more than sheep. God was preparing Moses to become a shepherd of His people.

The desert wasn’t a detour—it was God’s training ground. God used every mistake, every fear, and every season to equip Moses for something greater.

The same God who called Moses is the same God who calls you.

So, what is God calling you to do today—and what’s one step you can take toward it?

When you fully surrender your life to Him, God will do more than you could ever ask, think, or imagine. Like Moses, you don’t have to have it all together. You just have to be willing.

It starts with one. It starts with you.

Reflect and Respond:

  • What excuses or fears are holding you back from fully stepping into God’s calling for your life?
  • How can Moses’ story encourage you to trust God?
  • How has God used your past to equip you for His calling?
  • What’s one step of obedience God might be asking you to take this week?

Prayer:

God,
Thank You that even when I’m in the wilderness, You are with me and have a purpose for it all. Help me to follow You faithfully and trust You wholeheartedly. Give me eyes to see You and the steps You want me to take.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
