Judges: Repeating Cyclesنموونە

Do you enjoy building model airplanes or cars? A model Shelby Mustang GT350 will have all the intricate pieces to represent the actual car: seats, dash, wheels. Even the mustang symbol on the side.
But you wouldn’t mistake it for an actual car, would you? You can’t drive a car that fits in your hand.
And yet the people of Israel made gods for themselves, made of clay, wood, stone, and precious metals. And because they had the priestly clothes and the shrine, they acted like they were worshipping the living God. Micah is given as an example, but in a time in Israel’s history when “every person did what was right in his own eyes,” it’s not a stretch to think other people would have done something similar.
We do, too, don’t we? God lives inside each person who believes, but we can’t see him or touch him or hear his voice like we speak to each other. Sometimes we forget what we know to be true: God loves us, chose us to be adopted as his children, and wants to have a close relationship with us. When we forget this, we’re soon worshipping something that we think is God but isn’t really him at all.
The remedy for this is consistent Bible reading and prayer. You’re almost to the end of this reading plan, so you’re already doing it! Keep your eyes on Jesus, trusting he is who he says he is.
Prayer: Dear God, I want to know you more! Show me who you are and how I can love you more. Amen.

The book of Judges tells the story of Israel’s repeated cycle of turning away from God, facing the consequences, and being rescued by leaders called Judges. This reading plan highlights how God sets a standard, keeps his promises, and patiently calls his people back to him—again and again. Through it all, we see that God never gives up on his people and still desires a relationship with us today.
