Back to the Beginning

Imagine how different your life might have been if you had made just a few different decisions. Growing up in a different city, choosing a different field of study, or perhaps having a different group of friends. All of these factors greatly impact who you are today.

But what would your life be like if you had never decided to follow Christ? Have you ever imagined that? It could be a very helpful exercise.

Peter tells us that if we ever find ourselves spiritually stuck, “ineffective and unproductive”, it could be because we have forgotten that we have been cleansed from our past sins (2 Peter 1:8-9).

The more we mature in our faith, the more distant our day of conversion becomes. We may become fascinated with the “deeper” things of the faith, neglecting to cherish the simple but miraculous act of our salvation.

It’s often more scintillating to think that our faith needs a boost through a deeper bible study, a new worship song, or a supernatural experience. While these things can be good, often the reality is that we need to take ourselves back to the very beginning and simply remember that we have been cleansed from our past sins.

Take some time to think through what benefits God has given you as a result of your faith in Him. In addition to having an assurance of heaven, what other blessings have come your way due to your faith?
