RETURN to ME: Reading With the People of God #16

The Urgency of Repentance and the Path of Suffering

Today’s readings press us with a profound sense of urgency. In Zephaniah 1:14–2:3, the “day of the Lord” draws near—a time of reckoning for complacency and injustice. But amid the warnings, God offers a call to seek Him, to humble ourselves, and to seek righteousness and humility as the way to survive the coming storm.

In Mark 15, we walk with Jesus through His suffering and crucifixion. The path He takes is painful and unjust, yet purposeful—showing us the depth of God’s love and the cost of redemption. Jesus’ willingness to suffer invites us to reflect on what it means to follow Him, even when the way is hard.

Both passages remind us: God’s judgment is real, but so is His mercy. There is still time to turn—to seek God and align our hearts with His.

How will you respond to this call today? Are you ready to walk the path Jesus sets before you, trusting Him in the midst of suffering?
