Promised Power, Global Purpose 🌍🔥

Right before Jesus returned to heaven he gave his followers a huge mission: Be his witnesses—not just nearby, but all over the world.

But before they could go, Jesus told them to wait in Jerusalem.

Why?

Because they weren’t meant to do this mission alone. He promised to send the Holy Spirit to live in them and empower them every step of the way.

As they watched, Jesus was taken up into heaven. It wasn’t just a dramatic goodbye—it was a moment that marked his return to the Father, where he reigns now.

Then, two angels showed up and reminded them: Jesus will come back.

🎥 Watch: Acts 1:1–11

📖 Observe

Grab your journal or notes app. Start with this question:
👉 What stood out to you from this scene, and why?

Now read these Bible passages:

📌 Acts 1:1–11
📌 Matthew 28:16–20
📌 John 20:19–23

As you read, write down:

  • Anything Jesus tells his followers to do
  • Anything Jesus gives or promises them

Note repeated words, anything that feels unexpected, or any questions that come up.

💭 Interpret

Take a moment to reflect:

  • Why do you think Jesus told them to wait before going out on mission?
  • What do these passages show about the connection between the Holy Spirit and being a witness for Jesus?
  • In John 20:19–23, Jesus gives peace, a mission, and the power to forgive. How might those three things work together in your life or community?

🚀 Apply

Jesus gave his followers a clear mission—and he promised the Spirit to empower them for it. That promise still stands today.

✍️ Journal Prompt: Where in your life do you need to rely on the Holy Spirit to be a faithful witness right now? This could be with friends, family, work, or something else.
