Trapped by Our Words

Unsettled. Unprecedented. Impossible.

Do you feel trapped by the words other people use to describe this cultural moment and its events?

Do you catch yourself using words that make people feel like there’s no hope?

“Let Christ’s word with all its wisdom and richness live in you. Use psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to teach and instruct yourselves about God’s kindness. Sing to God in your hearts. Everything you say or do should be done in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” – Colossians 3:16-17 GW

Wise advice: Let Christ’s words live in you. Use the Bible and songs of hope to teach yourself how to think. Speak in the name of the Lord, with thanks.

This cultural moment is toxic. The Lord wants to speak through people like you to encourage the people around you with words that give them hope and inspire them to give thanks for God’s kindness.

Don’t believe everything that you hear. What God says about you and the world is more real than what you hear.

Listen to the words your heavenly Father speaks into your heart and mind, and believe them.

You don’t have to live the story somebody else writes for you. Choose to believe the story God planned for you.

The words you believe should set you free!

Ask yourself:

Do the words I choose to use give people confidence in and point people to Jesus?

For reflection:

Father, may my words be positive and uplifting. May they add flavor to conversations instead of bitterness. Fill my mind with words of hope and songs of faith. Amen.
