Boundaries: A Biblical Perspectiveنموونە

Myth: Boundaries Are Not Biblical
Truth: God Established Boundaries from the Beginning
"Then God said, 'Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.' And it was so." (Genesis 1:9)
Many Christians believe that setting boundaries is unloving or selfish. They fear that saying "no" contradicts the call to love sacrificially. However, we see from the very beginning that God created order and distinction—separating light from darkness, land from sea. These boundaries were intentional, demonstrating that God values structure and limits. Just as He set boundaries in creation, He calls us to establish healthy boundaries in our lives to maintain balance, peace, and well-being.
God continued to set boundaries when he made one tree off limits, provided the 10 Commandents, etc. These boundaries were to allow for healthy relationship with him and others. Boundaries existed BEFORE the fall and were a part of God's original design.
When we fail to set boundaries, we risk burnout, resentment, and even disobedience to God's calling in our lives. Boundaries are not about keeping people out but about stewarding our time, energy, and relationships wisely. If God, in His perfect wisdom, created boundaries in the world, we can trust that they are good and necessary for our well-being.
Reflection Questions:
- Have you ever felt guilty about setting boundaries? Why?
- How does understanding God’s boundaries in creation change your perspective on personal boundaries?
- What areas of your life currently lack healthy boundaries, and how is that affecting you?
