Day 3: Becoming Who God Had in Mind

Becoming who God envisioned requires letting go of who we have in mind. The best decision we can make is to trade our vision for God’s vision for our life. God told the prophet Jeremiah that He knew him before he was formed in his mother’s womb.

While we might say that our lives start at birth, from a biblical standpoint, our lives began in eternity with God, even before our parents came together to conceive us.

This means God knew us before our parents did. Since He knows the most about us, why wouldn’t we consult Him regarding our purpose?

We learn God’s vision and purpose for us by accepting and seeking Him. God has given us free will and does not impose His vision upon us. Instead, he waits for us to respond to His invitation. Only then does He reveal Himself and our purpose to us.

For example, in the Old Testament, there was a young man named Samuel, whose mother was Hannah. She prayed for God to grant her a child, and He blessed her with Samuel. In gratitude for God answering her prayer, she dedicated Samuel back to the Lord. Samuel grew up serving the priest of God. One night, God called Samuel, and he discovered God’s purpose and vision for his life. He became a prophet, priest, and judge to the children of Israel, anointing the nation’s first kings.

In the New Testament, Peter, a fisherman, encountered Jesus. He accepted Jesus’ invitation to be born again and became the first preacher of the Gospel and a founding father of the Church. God’s vision for Peter was far greater than he could have imagined.

If you want to discover who God has called you to be, remember that it’s never too late.
