The Choice Is Ours

The lost son recognised that he made a poor decision and made the choice to return to the father. We also have this same choice. We can continue to live our own lives without God or we can recognise that there is a better choice and turn away from our current way of living (repentance) and receive the gift of God’s forgiveness, which Jesus won for us.

Repentance is a big word - so what is it?

Repentance is more than just saying sorry to God. It literally means to change one’s mind. It is making a 180 degree turn from the life you were living, and living differently in response to the decision you made to follow Jesus. For the lost son he left his independent life and returned to his father, he was sorry but he also chose to live differently.

What does it mean to be forgiven by God?

Forgiveness isn’t putting a bandaid over a wound. It isn’t a temporary cover up. The Bible tells us that God’s forgiveness is total and permanent. We receive it by trusting and believing that what Jesus did on the cross, was enough to pay for our sin. We can’t earn it or do anything to deserve it. We just need to recognise we need it and accept it.
