God's Love For Us
In Luke 15, Jesus tells a story of a young man who decided to walk away from home, take his father’s inheritance and waste it on things that weren’t beneficial for him or his life, or as the Bible calls it ‘wild living’.
When he had lost all the money that he had received from his father, he was left to feed pigs and in this low moment of his life, realises that he had done wrong by his father and chose to return home. The father was so happy to see his son come home! He embraced him. He didn’t even let his son finish his apology; he was just filled with so much joy to see him again, that he threw him a party.
So why did Jesus tell this story?
Well, because this is us.
Jesus is telling the crowd that we have all run away from the home that God created for us, but if only we would come back to Him, we would receive His complete love and forgiveness for all we have done to hurt Him.
This is what you have done when you choose to respond to His love; when you say ‘sorry’ for all the wrong things you have done, and have received the complete forgiveness and mercy of God.
When we do this, we are adopted into the family of God, which He calls His church. God is longing to have you in His family and to be able to care for you and guide you as a truly loving father would.
