Day 4 – Sometimes Being Faithful Means Being Flexible
"Sometimes, being faithful to God also means changing, adapting, and reinventing ourselves so we can keep bearing fruit."
Nothing in life stays the same forever. We grow, we change, and we walk through new seasons. Even the calling God has placed on our lives—while always remaining true to its core purpose—may require different expressions and strategies as time goes on.
When writing to the Corinthians, Paul said, "Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a servant to everyone, to win as many as possible. [...] I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some." (1 Corinthians 9:19-22)
Paul understood that the message of the Gospel never changes, but that he needed to adapt his approach to effectively reach different people in different contexts. He didn’t compromise the truth. He adjusted his posture, his language, and his methods so that more people could hear and understand the message. He remained flexible without losing his identity. He didn’t confine himself to one single way of serving God—he stayed willing to reinvent how he served in order to better fulfill his calling.
In our work and personal lives, we have to learn to be flexible, too. Sometimes we cling tightly to projects, strategies, or roles that once bore great fruit but now no longer do. And if we aren’t willing to change, we might miss the new opportunities God is trying to place before us.
Reinvention doesn’t mean betraying who we are. It means having the courage to release what was good for a past season so we can fully embrace what is needed in the next.
God calls us to stay rooted in Him while being flexible in how we live out our mission. Innovating, adjusting, and updating our approaches—these can be powerful ways to stay alive, effective, and ready to serve in the new seasons He is preparing for us.
Practical Tips:
- Take time to reflect: Is there an area of your life or work that needs to shift or be updated right now? If so, write down three practical steps you can start taking this week to move toward that change.
- Find a trusted person of faith who can pray with you through this season of renewal.
Prayer:
Lord, help me not to stay attached to ways of doing things that no longer bear fruit. Teach me to recognize when it's time to renew and reposition myself, and give me the courage to embrace the change You desire. I want to stay faithful to You and ready to walk into everything You have prepared for me. Amen.
