Day 2 – From Passion to Calling
"Not every passion we feel is a calling to pursue. But every true calling reveals itself over time, through prayer and confirmation."
When we feel a strong excitement about a project or idea, it’s natural to wonder if it’s God prompting us in that direction. There are times when we feel inspired by a vision, a career opportunity, or a business idea, and everything inside us seems to say, “Go for it!” But then, as time goes by, the initial enthusiasm fades, or obstacles arise, and doubt creeps in: was that truly from God?
The truth is, not every passion we feel is meant to become a calling to pursue. Some passions are part of our growth, meant to teach us something or simply to enrich our journey. Others, however, are tools God uses to guide us into our true purpose.
When Nehemiah heard about the broken walls of Jerusalem, he was overwhelmed with grief (Nehemiah 1:3-4). He could have just vented and moved on. Instead, the burden stayed. He prayed, fasted, and sought confirmation. Only after receiving the king’s permission, the needed resources, and a deep, steady peace, did he realize this wasn’t just an emotional response—it was a calling he was meant to build, step by step.
Even in our professional lives, we may find ourselves trying different projects or launching new ideas. Some bear good fruit; others may fail or close sooner than we expected. But a failed attempt doesn’t mean we missed God’s will or wasted our time. Often it’s the “no’s” that God uses to protect us, shape us, and redirect us toward the “yes” He has already prepared. Every experience—even those that don’t produce the results we hoped for—is part of how God sharpens our discernment, molds our character, and prepares the ground for what He is truly calling us to build.
Today, let’s commit to paying close attention to the passions God has placed in our hearts: noticing which ones are maturing, which ones are being confirmed through circumstances, and which ones are already bearing—or will bear—fruit for His Kingdom.
Practical Tips:
- Write down three passions or projects you’re currently excited about.
- For each one, ask yourself:
- Is this passion still alive over time, or has it faded?
- Am I seeing concrete confirmations—like opportunities, resources, or encouragement from trusted people?
- If I move forward with this, who would be blessed because of it?
Reflective Question:
Which of the passions you feel today shows clear signs of being more than just enthusiasm and might represent a calling God wants you to pursue?
Prayer:
Lord, I surrender the dreams and passions I carry in my heart to You. Help me to recognize the confirmations You place along my path, and give me the courage to release anything that doesn’t come from You. I want to build only on the foundations You have prepared for me. Amen.
