Think back to the last time you gave in to a temptation. Did it just happen out of the blue, or were there a series of little signposts you passed on the way there?

The naive young man here was strolling right "by her house” on dusk… wrong place, wrong time! Temptation is always at work, always pulling towards sin, whether we’re aware of it or not. Like a black hole, the closer you get, the stronger the pull. We need to be wise about where our steps are taking us, and when.

Recognise what particular temptations you might be susceptible to, and what environments most trigger them. Put up solid boundaries, and don’t try to peek over them! Don’t even flirt with dangerous situations, casually “strolling” close to them; keep as far away as you can!

Prayer:

Dear Lord, You know me, and You know my areas of weakness and struggle. I want to obey You, give me eyes to recognise the early warning signs of temptation, and build the discipline to turn away when I do. Amen.
