Jesus’ Trial, Death and Resurrection (As Recorded by John)نموونە

Jesus was innocent
“I find no guilt in Him.” (John 18:38)
The religious leaders had arrested Jesus and wanted to put Him to death.
But to do so, they needed permission from the Romans who had political power over Israel. So, Jesus was taken to the governor Pilate. His first question was, “What accusation do you bring against this man?” He received only a vague, evasive answer. Jesus had done nothing wrong; His accusers simply wanted Him out of the way. To clarify the matter, Pilate began to question Jesus. It soon became clear to him that Jesus had no political ambitions (which would have been a threat to the Romans). Jesus told Him, “My kingdom is not of this world.” Pilate could draw only one conclusion. This prisoner was innocent. There was no reason to put Him to death.
The fact that Jesus was innocent is important. That is why it is described in such detail. If He had been convicted of a serious offence, it would have been a just punishment for His own sin. But He was innocent. Only in this way could His death be payment for the guilt of someone else – namely, of every person who believes in Him.
Do you think it was fair the way in which Jesus was condemned? And what do you think of the idea that He died to bear other people's punishment?
