Seek opportunities to serve
Service is a key part of being a Christian – serving God; serving others in our community with love, charity, care and foresight. Joshua encourages Israel to love God, keep His commands and serve Him with all your heart and soul. This is not half-hearted; it is full commitment to God.
Paul shows what this means when he writes these verses in Romans 12. Service is multifaceted and encompasses a mindset that puts others’ needs ahead of your own. It’s about serving others with energy, diligence and fervour because we’re serving God too. Serving others may require patience and prayerful faithfulness. It certainly requires sharing and hospitality.
So let me encourage us to seek opportunities to serve in whatever form it may arise, even if it is at a cost, because it’s the Lord we’re serving.
