While Moses is away on the mountain, the Israelites quickly fall into idolatry by forging a golden calf to worship. God disciplines them with a terrible plague — the first of several such incidents. The book of Exodus concludes with the construction of the Tabernacle and the glory of God’s divine presence filling it. Leviticus continues the stipulations of the Law by describing the types of sacrificial offerings to be made.
