God tells David that he had been guiding him since the time he was a little shepherd boy. All those years, when David was off by himself with herds of sheep, no one noticing his work, no one celebrating him, no one thinking twice about him, God was with him. God was shaping him. God was forming him. Of course, it was always going to lead here, to David sitting on the throne of God's people finally at peace. But it began long ago, when he was just a kid with some sheep.
You've probably heard that God knew you since before you were born (Psalm 139:13-18). But sometimes we can wonder how that actually works. Here in David's life, we get to see it play out. David wasn't always aware of God's presence or work in his life. But here God zooms out and shows David that he had been using everything in David's life to get him to this moment. And the same is true for you.
Think it Over: Is it hard for you to believe God is working toward something incredible in your life right now?
