The Shepherd’s Candle
Today, we discuss the third candle or the Shepherd’s Candle. It commemorates joy and humility.
On the night of Jesus’s birth in Bethlehem, some humble shepherds were working the night shift. All of a sudden, out of nowhere, they were visited by tons of angels! These angels appeared in the night sky, proclaiming the good news that the Messiah, or the Savior, was born! The shepherds were terrified, but they listened intently to what the angels had to say. As soon as the angels left, the shepherds discussed what happened among themselves. They were excited about the message of the angels. At last, their Savior was born! They had been hearing about the Messiah for years, and He was finally here. They left their flock of sheep and went to find the baby.
When the shepherds found Jesus, they were joyful. The Shepherds were poor people, yet, they were the first to meet the newborn Messiah. Their Savior was humble just like them! (More on that later.) They went and told everyone about the baby Messiah born in a stable. The crowds were astonished over the joy of the shepherds and amazed at their message.
The Messiah was born! What a joyful announcement!
