How Do We Get Peace?
Do you ever feel anxious over the negative news you hear about in the world? Do you feel depressed because your parents fight too much? Or, maybe there is a person you know who you literally can't stand to be around!
You might wonder, “Why is everything so awful if Jesus says He is the Prince of Peace?”
The peace that Jesus brings is different than the peace we typically understand. We often think of peace in terms like “world peace.” But Jesus didn’t come to bring “world peace” as we know it (at least not yet!) Instead, He came to give each one of us a personal kind of peace. This feeling is similar to tranquility or deep contentment.
Imagine feeling calm even while something terrible was happening to you. Sounds impossible, right? It’s not! No matter what happens on earth, we have access to this special kind of peace. Sounds pretty good!
So how do we get this peace?
Isaiah 26:3 says, “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!”
In other words, all you have to do to receive peace is to keep your thoughts fixed on Jesus! As you continue to trust in Him, He will give you the calmness you are looking for. You will also be able to forgive others who hurt you, seek forgiveness from someone you hurt, and learn to better love others (even if they irritate you!) All of this will contribute to a wonderful feeling of peace that only Jesus can give.
