John knows he is writing to people who are very familiar with Jewish texts and stories. One of those is the book of Daniel, which is a book that is in part a narrative story and part prophetic visions. You’ll notice how similar this particular vision in Revelation is to Daniel, emphasising the spiritual battle that God and his angels fight. The main point: good conquers evil!
