Paul wrote about himself and his weaknesses, so the Corinthians could see where they had been wrong. They should have continued to follow his leadership instead of turning to the “super-apostles” and their slander and boasts. Paul doesn’t simply want the Corinthians to trust him as their leader; he wants the people to live with his example. Paul gave the church the high standards of Christ and asked them to adjust their goals to their Lord's. C.S. Lewis wrote, “Aim at heaven, and you will get earth thrown in; aim at Earth, and you will get neither.” Paul wanted the Corinthian church to aim for goals worthy of their faith and their Lord.
“But this command I gave them: ‘Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be my people. And walk in all the way that I command you, that it may be well with you’ “ (Jeremiah 7:23).
