Confidence for the New Yearنموونە

He knows and forgives
You wouldn’t think there is much comfort in God knowing everything about you. As you think back over the past year, I’m sure you can think of the thoughts and words and actions that you wish no one knew about, maybe even some sins that you actually were able to hide from everyone. Well, almost everyone. God knows everything. He even knows the things you would dare never tell your loved ones, lest they stop loving you.
That’s God’s omniscience, his perfect knowledge of everything. Is that a terrifying thought? Read Psalm 139:6: “Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.” Not too terrifying, not too appalling, but too wonderful. How could the psalmist say that? Because he knew his God. So do you. Your God promises that since Jesus lived a perfect life for you and died on a cross, God has forgiven your sins. God does not love you because you fooled him. God does not love you because you succeeded in hiding your sins from him. God saw even the sins that you would never dare whisper to anyone else, and he loved you and forgave you. Such knowledge is too wonderful, too lofty for you to attain. Is there anyone else who could give you a love like that? Is there anyone else better suited to help you conquer your sins in the year to come than the One who already knows them and forgives them?
