Easter Mattersনমুনা

Written by Wes Chia - Project Manager
Darkness seems to have won. The light and life that beamed so brightly in Jesus has been extinguished. Another young life so full of promise snuffed out prematurely? So it seems as the sun sets on Saturday evening.
Dawn on Sunday brings more than sunlight. Some of the women closest to Jesus make their way to the tomb to anoint his body, but hope has stirred. There is no stone in front of the tomb, and there is no body in the tomb. Perplexed, suddenly the gravesite is bathed in light as two men appear in dazzling apparel. The women fall down in fear — understandable, I’d be terrified too! But the men don’t come to torment they come with a message:
He is not here, but has risen.
Slowly but surely the truth dawns on these women, then on the other disciples. Jesus has done what he said he would do! Our faith stands or falls on this testimony. If Jesus did not rise, we are to be more pitied than anyone because we’ve wasted our lives following a fraudster. But if it’s true then light and life have triumphed over death and darkness. Here is where we anchor our hope — payment has been made for our sin, and a guarantee made for our inheritance. What happened for Jesus will happen to his followers — life will follow death, light will overcome the darkness. Let the miracle of the resurrection stir our hearts in gratitude today! Let us praise our risen Lord! Let our hope be strengthened! He is not here, but has risen.
Today ponder this:
What parts of your life need to be filled with resurrection hope? Thank God for the hope he gives us through the resurrection of Jesus.

About this Plan

Easter Matters is a devotion series designed to walk you through Jesus' death and resurrection in the Gospel of Luke. This Easter is an opportunity to proclaim the story of Jesus again. Easter matters, because it’s the moment when God pierced the darkness with light, when He gave hope to the hopeless, when life triumphed over death. Easter matters because you matter to God. This series was written by Pastor Ben Hewitt and Gerald Liew from City on a Hill Ballarat, and Jimmy Shepherd from City on a Hill Tweed.
