Sometimes the end is not really the end, but only the beginning.

Jesus was put to death for the claim that he was the Son of God, and that they would see him sitting at the right hand of the father. Well now his words are proven true as he leads his disciples out of the city, blessing them as he ascends to his heavenly father to take his place at his right hand, in power and authority.

This is the end of his earthly ministry - but the beginning of his heavenly reign, and from there he would clothe his disciples in power to be effective witnesses of all he has done.

This marks a new beginning for the disciples, and although they don’t exactly know what lies ahead. They know God is with them. So they return to Jerusalem with great joy, praising and worshipping the risen Lord Jesus, who reigns in heaven. Knowing their future is in his hands.

Nearly 2000 years later we share in this same great joy and hope. We might understand more about how God’s plan unfolds, but like the disciples we don’t know what kind of challenges are ahead of us, the difficult seasons we are still yet to face. And that uncertainty can cause real anxiety. Yet for the christian there is a deep peace in knowing what we are called to do today, gather with God’s people and praise him for the wonderful hope and joy, forgiveness and love found in our risen and ascended Jesus Christ. And it’s in his hands our future lies.

Do you live knowing that the future belongs to Jesus? He who blesses and cares for you!
