What do you ask?

In this scene, we see two of Jesus’ disciples washing clothes. And while they wash, they start talking about their “old” and “new” ways of life. The “new” way is raising a lot of questions.

“Is this really what I’m supposed to do?”
“Isn’t there more important work I could give my time to?”
“What is Jesus trying to teach me through this?”
“Or is He even teaching me anything at all—am I just doing boring work?”

And you could probably add more questions like that.

Then one of the disciples says: “There’s a lesson in everything He asks you to do…”

A lesson to love.
A lesson to endure.
A lesson to be patient.
A lesson to be humble.
A lesson to rest.
A lesson to celebrate.
A lesson to be engaged.

But what is required for you to learn the lessons Jesus wants to teach you?

Trust.

Choosing to trust Him more than your own thoughts; placing His plan above your own; learning to think in His ways.

And that takes us straight to today’s text:

Trust Him with all your heart.
Don’t rely on your own understanding, but lean on the wisdom He gives.

Keep Him in mind and put into practice the lessons He teaches you.

And if you have a question, bring it to Him.

He makes your path straight. That’s His promise—even if the way looks different than you expected.

• What do you find difficult about trusting Jesus—and can you bring that to Him in prayer?

Prayer

"Lord, I truly want to follow You and trust You. But honestly, I find that hard sometimes- especially when I'm faced with ordinary, boring, or seemingly 'unspiritual' tasks. Please help me see what You want to teach me through them. I want to become more and more like You. Amen."
