CHILDLIKE FAITH

Do you remember the joy you felt as a child, holding a box of crayons, facing a blank page with endless possibilities? Imagine being a child again, proudly showing your drawing to your dad: “Look, Daddy! I drew our house. Look! I added the sun and a tree!”

This reminds me of a scene from Antoine de Saint-Exupery’s The Little Prince. The little prince asks the aviator to draw him a sheep. After several unsatisfactory attempts, the aviator finally draws a simple box and explains, “The sheep is inside.” The little prince’s face lights up with delight. This wonderful interaction highlights how children effortlessly use their imagination. It shows us the beauty and power of simplicity—a quality we should cultivate when we approach God in prayer.

Jesus prayed: “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children” (Matthew 11:25, NIV). We have much to learn by studying children. They know how to live each day with joy, to trust fully, and to embrace the mystery of God without needing all the answers. Childlike faith isn’t immaturity—it’s spiritual clarity. As Jesus said “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 18:3, NIV).

Paul offers this prayer for us: “[I pray] that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith … that you … may … grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God” (Ephesians 3:17–19, NIV).

  • “Dwell”: Christ wants to comfortably live in you.
  • “Filled”: Completely saturated by God’s presence.
  • “Fullness of God”: Nothing missing—overflowing life.

When we approach God with childlike face, we invite Him to dwell in us so that we might be filled with Him.

Take a pen and paper and sketch your house of prayer. Don’t worry about artistic skill—this is about spiritual vision. Perhaps your house has open windows to welcome the Holy Spirit or a garden full of flowers symbolizing praise. Maybe it’s just a simple box, but you know God is there, ready to meet you. Your sketch isn’t just child’s play—it’s a heartfelt prayer saying, “Lord, here’s my heart. Dwell here.”
