Becoming a House of Prayer

DAY 1 OF 5

WELCOME HOME

Have you ever wondered why, out of all the incredible things Jesus did, His disciples asked Him to teach them to pray (Luke 11:1)?

They didn’t ask Him to show them how to preach or how to perform miracles. What they longed to understand was the source of His power … and His peace. Prayer was Jesus’ lifeline—the invisible bridge between heaven and earth.

What if you could discover that same lifeline?

What if prayer became your favorite place to live—not a duty, but a daily delight?

Right from Scripture’s first moment, God rolls out a divine welcome mat, inviting each of us into His presence. The first letter of the first Hebrew word in the Bible is beth. In Hebrew, this letter shares its root with the word for “house,” and even visually resembles an open home, welcoming us in.

This invitation carries profound meaning: God has always desired a dwelling place among His people. Eden was more than a garden—it was humanity’s original spiritual home, a sacred place of unhindered fellowship with our Creator. Although sin disrupted this intimacy, God never ceased inviting us back home. The image of a house is woven deeply through Scripture—from Eden, through Moses’s tabernacle and Solomon’s temple, right into the sanctuary of our hearts today. It became perfectly clear through Jesus, Emmanuel—meaning “God with us.”

God is the God who longs to dwell with His people, who desires intimacy above all. Consider John 1:14: “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us” (ESV). The Greek word translated as “dwelt” means to pitch a tent, bringing to mind the tabernacle in the wilderness. From the very beginning, God didn’t just want to speak to us—He longed to dwell closely among us. And now, through prayer, He makes His home within our hearts.

Jesus invites us warmly: “When you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father who is unseen” (Matthew 6:6, NIV).

This “room” is your heart, intentionally designed for intimate communion with God.

Stepping into this sacred space helps you shift from performance to presence and from distraction to divine intimacy with the One who longs to draw you close.

Pause briefly now and simply pray, “Father, dwell richly in my heart today.” Before bed tonight, gently ask yourself, “How did I experience God’s invitation for intimacy with Him today?”

About this Plan

Becoming a House of Prayer

Prayer isn’t about “getting it right,” but about drawing closer to the One who loves you most. From the first pages of Scripture, we see a God who walks with His people, speaks with them, and welcomes them. Discover the way of prayer that Jesus taught—a place where our souls can breathe, our worries dissolve, and His presence is the greatest treasure of all.
