Help, I'm Stuck!

DAY 4 OF 5

STUCK: Relationships

Relationships are haaaaaaard.

Sometimes we become entangled with others: our spouse, coworker, friend, or family member. The words we have said or actions taken in the past muddy the relational waters, and we can't seem to find our way through.

God's word has some great ideas about how to be in relationships with others so that his light shines through. And the great news? No matter how stuck you may feel, if one person (hopefully, YOU!) takes the initiative to implement biblical principles in the relationship, things will change.

In 1 Peter 3:8, we are reminded to be of one mind. Sympathize with each other. Love each other as brothers and sisters. Be tenderhearted, and keep a humble attitude. (NLT)

If we put this into practice – even in prickly relationships – things will change. Being humble and empathizing with another person, even as you try to keep your heart tender towards them, will change the way you feel. It will change the way you pray for them, think about them, and talk to them.

God knew his kids would have trouble with each other. That's why he gave us so many instructions about how to treat one another.

Practically speaking, if you are experiencing relationship issues with someone and feel stuck, consider praying for them first. Pray blessings on them and that the words you speak to them will be kind and be received as such. Pray for the Lord to reveal to you what they need, and then show you how to meet that need.

You may even need to pray for help in forgiving someone. Over and over. Some relationships can't be mended due to toxicity or abuse. Working toward forgiveness, even if it doesn't repair or restore your relationship, will still be beneficial. Forgiveness begins to restore you and change you from the inside out.

If you are feeling stuck in a relationship, I invite you to pray this prayer over that individual:

Lord, I know you love ___________ as much as you love me. We are both your kids, but we are struggling right now. You have the way through this, and I ask that you guide both my footsteps and my mouth. I want to speak the right words, think the right thoughts, and take the right actions according to your Word. Help us untangle, get unstuck, and move forward in the direction you have for both of us. I trust you with my relationship with ____________. In Jesus' name, amen.
