DAY TWO — Facing the Unfamiliar
For generations, the Israelites had lived as slaves in Egypt. Though harsh, it was familiar—it was what they knew. When God set them free, their new reality was both exhilarating and terrifying. Freedom meant leaving behind routines, rhythms, and even a sense of security. The wilderness ahead was full of unknowns.
That’s the tension we often feel when God leads us out of old patterns. The familiar, even when it’s broken, can feel safer than stepping into change. The Israelites longed for Egypt more than once because the unfamiliar wilderness tested their faith. But God was teaching them to trust Him—not their surroundings—for provision and direction.
We all face “Exodus moments.” Moments when God calls us to be brave and follow Him into the unknown. Whatever the wilderness looks like, God invites us to face the unfamiliar with courage, knowing He is with us.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
- What in your life might God be calling you to leave behind?
- Why do you think the unfamiliar can feel scarier than staying in old habits?
- How might trusting God’s presence give you courage for the unknown?

About this Plan

THE PROMISED LAND and Milk and Honey Productions have created this plan to help individuals and groups engage the story of Exodus and Leviticus in a fresh way. In this 30-day devotional, you’ll see clips from THE PROMISED LAND, read passages of Scripture, and reflect on questions that connect Israel’s journey to your own walk of faith. Through humor, reverence, and honesty, we’ll discover that God uses ordinary, imperfect people to accomplish His extraordinary purposes.
