DAY SEVENTEEN — The Golden Calf

When Moses returned from the mountain and saw the golden calf, he burned with anger, broke the tablets of the law, and confronted Aaron. Aaron tried to excuse himself, even lying about how the calf came to be.

This story shows how quickly fear can lead to compromise—and how easy it is to justify sin rather than confess it. Aaron’s excuse (“I threw the gold into the fire, and out came this calf!”) is absurd, but it mirrors the ways we often downplay our own disobedience.

True repentance means owning our sin before God. He is faithful to forgive, but He calls us to honesty.
