Day 6: Dealing with Spiritual Warfare
We all face challenges in life. However, as followers of Christ, we also face added spiritual pressures that unbelievers do not.
There’s a real battle happening over your soul, your growth, and even your peace of mind. The Bible calls this spiritual warfare. It’s not just hardship; it’s opposition. You’re being resisted. And it is coming at you from three angles: the world, the flesh, and the devil.
The influence of the world can creep in quietly. Over time, you begin to absorb the thinking around you. Whether from your family culture, friend groups, or even ideas inside the church. Unfortunately, not everything we pick up along the way lines up with God’s Word. Some of it sounds spiritual, but it leads us away from Christ. That’s why it’s so important to stay anchored to God’s Word. Let the Bible sharpen your discernment so that you can recognize what is true and what is not. Keep your eyes open. Don’t let the world’s thinking shape your beliefs.
The second enemy is your flesh. Your old nature still wants control. When you or I give in to our flesh, our responses to people and situations are often marked by irritation, frustration, and self-preservation. That’s not the Spirit of God. Galatians 5:16 says, “Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh” (NKJV). You can’t walk in the Spirit and the flesh at the same time. It takes daily surrender to walk in the Spirit, but that’s where your strength will be found.
The third enemy is the devil himself. He works through the world to stir up your flesh and tempt you to compromise. That compromise weakens your life, your home, and your church. The devil isn’t neutral. He wants to steal your joy and distract you from God’s calling. But he doesn’t get the final say. The Bible reminds us of this powerful truth in Isaiah 59:19: “When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him” (NKJV).
That’s our hope in the battle. You are not defenseless. God is with you. When the pressure builds and it feels like you’re drowning, the Lord will raise a banner of protection over your life. He will guard your heart and mind. He will make a way. He always has, and He always will.
Keep your mind stayed on Him. That’s where peace comes from. Not from figuring it all out, but from trusting the One who already has.
Guided Prayer: Father, I am thankful that I don’t have to fight my battles alone. You are always with me and have given me all the spiritual armor I need to defeat my enemies. Please help me resist the influence of the world, keep my flesh from taking control, and stand strong against the devil’s schemes. I don’t have to figure things out on my own. You already have a plan and a will for my life. All I need to do is walk in that plan. Amen.
