Letting Go of Your Past

DAY 4 OF 7

Day 4: Forsaking Your Past

After you forget and forgive your past, there’s one more step to take. You need to forsake it. God has already done this for you. As a born-again believer, your sins have been forgiven because of Jesus. He paid the full price for them. And now, God is calling you to let them go too. That’s what it means to forsake. It’s a word that means to let something drop, to let it sink, to separate from it entirely. And that’s what God has done with your sin.

Psalm 103:12 (NKJV) tells us, “As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.”

God has fully removed it. It’s not hanging over you anymore. He’s not holding it in His hand, ready to throw it back in your face. He’s not treating you the way your sin deserves. That’s mercy. And in that mercy, He invites you to live differently. Stop carrying what He has already cast away.

God will never forsake you. Never. That means He won’t let you sink or drop, no matter how much your past weighs on you. You’re not alone in your struggle. But the past must be released. You can’t keep using it as a reason to stay stuck today. Let it go.

I know some of you have been through deep pain. Unimaginable pain. It is hard. It’s harder than hard. But I’m thankful that those things are behind you. They may still affect your memory and your emotions, but they’re no longer your identity. That season is over. And even if those things happened before you came to Christ, God was with you. He was near. He was already working to draw you to Himself. He saw every tear. He gave you moments of rest when you needed them. He showed you mercy when you didn’t even know it was Him. God is still doing that today.

The issue is that the enemy wants to keep you tied to the past. He’ll use it to discourage you, distract you, or keep you from moving forward in faith. Don’t let him. The past is not the problem anymore. What holds you back now is how tightly you’re holding on to it. Let it drop. Let it sink. Forsake it.

After forgetting your past and forgiving your past, you need to forsake your past. God is ready to do a fresh work in your life today. Let Him. And choose to walk in this truth, today.

Guided Prayer: Father, thank You for never leaving me alone in my struggles. Help me remember that no matter what I am going through, You are right there beside me. Give me the strength to ignore the enemy’s tactics to dredge up my past. You have given me the power to forsake my past. Father, instead of looking back, I choose to embrace what You have next for me.
